Meteors and UFOs

12:45 AM Dec. 13, 1996 (Friday): I had just left Martinsville, and was traveling south on Highway 37, when I noticed a bright white cigar shaped object. It was tilted at approximately a 45 degree angle, and positioned roughly 25 feet above a large field on the west side of the roadway. As I got closer and then passed by, the object's shape, color, and angle remained constant.

A little farther down the road, away from the glaring lights of Martinsville, I could see the Big Dipper and Orion clearly, as well as several meteors that coursed the night sky. Then in the southwestern part of the sky, I watched as an orange tinted object streaked toward Earth much like a meteor, except it appeared very low on the horizon, then disappeared below the tree line. As I continued on, I could see more meteors falling to the east. At 12:55 AM, I observed a second orange "ball", as it moved across the Big Dipper.

When I arrived at my home on Anderson Road, just north of Bloomington, I continued watching the sky. I saw a few more meteors, then caught sight of yet another low falling orange object. After ten minutes of no activity, I witnessed a sudden burst of several meteors. I was astounded, as a "meteor" fell very close to the Big Dipper, then abruptly changed directions by 90 degrees. Meteors just don't make right angle turns! At 1:30 AM, I watched as a similar object repeated the same maneuver.

Lynn Taylor: Alien and UFO Reports

At 2:00 AM, I decided to return to skywatching from my car. As I approached the end of my driveway, I could see another orange "ball" fall behind the trees. I turned west and drove down Anderson Road. I had just turned south onto old highway 37, when off to my left was, to my surprise, an orange object crossing the field in a northerly direction. I stopped my car to watch, further. The object was moving very slowly, but now it had changed direction. It was moving toward me! I put the car in gear, but when I began to move, the object suddenly turned and resumed it's previous course. It gained altitude in order to clear the wooded hillside, then disappeared from sight.
